Hobart has become home to many artistic refugees from “the mainland” and its café scene has grown to reflect this.

The city hosts more funky little cafes per head of population than any other Australian city, and the constant flow-through of tourists has determined world-class standards of cuisine and service. Locals and new-arrivals have grown to demand this quality year round, and not only in tourist season. Tasmania’s geographical isolation means that there are many gourmet meats, cheeses and wines which are available more readily on the island than on the mainland.
